The big ideal behind this pattern: I wanted to make a series of bears. One for each month of the year. After doing a web search, I found that all the bear patterns had problems. Too long arms, wonky body construction, head worked separately, no neck, muzzle attached as an afterthought. Disappointed, I sat down and created my own bear.  (See Xmas Bear.) Still not completely happy, I have been reworking and refining this pattern to the point it is today. (See St. Patrick's day bear.)

Some of the bears made with this pattern: As you can see, the bear has under gone several revisions. Look at neck thickness and the way limbs are attached. This pattern explains most recent revision, as seen in the St. Patrick's day bear. Holiday bear is a first attempt, which explains the poor hip / shoulder construction. New Year's bear is a improvement over Holiday bear, but still not quite right. Valentine's bear was an attempt at creating a sitting bear, but, I abandon that ideal. Don't ask about the furry bear. I don't remember what brand of crack I was smoking....

St. Patrick's day bear. If you make the pattern, this is the bear you will be making. The shape, that is. You can make it any color you like.  Bear done in Green with white embroidery of shamrock on belly.

Valentines bear: Brown for body, head. arms & legs start with red, changing to brown on row 4.  Face stitched in red. Heart shape sewn on belly. As you can see, arms and legs are wonky, so ideal of sitting bear abandoned.

Ugly fuzzy bear: Don't bother. Bad ideal. Basically, Its the V-day bear then extra yarn latch-hooked over. Sigh. He looks like a Ewok.

New Years bear: Bear made in white. face stitched in black. Small top hat in black. sash made in white, with year stitched on.  Shoulders more rounded, hips smoothed, but, still not right.

Xmas Bear: Bear made in a red/green/white ombre yarn. Hat made by doing two rounds white, then changing to red, work in spirals, decreasing evenly, to a point. (cone-shape.) Add pom-pom.  Notice here the slumped shoulders and extremely narrow waist. Hideous.
